Today we shared our multimedia projects from over winter break. Here is a sumarry of what the people in my group did
Nina
Citizen Cane- reporter trying to figure out significance of a rich mans last word (rosebud)
Annie Hall- Comedy about people in the performing arts business
Katie
Lolita- petafile pervert who is obsessed w/ a young girl (Lolita)
-he marries the girls mom to get closer to Lolita
-The book shows that society does not like relationships between men and young girls
-Lolita goes to an all girls school that stresses the arts. This shows that the society does not expect girls to do anything of real importance
Ross
- CDs from the era of the Vietnam war (National Skyline, Neil Young, the Beatles, the Band)
-all sad and about struggling
-Song about soldier who misses his friends
-Song about a soldier missing his wife who is at home
-Song about a wife missing her husband who is at war, when he returns, he is really changed
-Neil Young song about how African Americans in the South are still having a hard time

Portrait of a Young Man
-Boy who is faced w/ a lot of pressure from society
-The boy is trying to define art and what it means to be Irish
-Decides that he is content with who he is and thus he breaks away from society
-In the end the boy comes up with the definition of art (to create something beautiful)

-Collection of stories that all come together
-A bunch of happy people in a small town
-The are some really lonely people mixed in

-A former detective is supposed to follow a friends possessed wife
-He falls in love with her
-The woman he is following turns out not to be the wife
-Both women die
Aaron also did Citizen Cane, but there was not enough time to discuss it

Abbey Road- shows Vietnam war had a big effect on society
The Band- shows poverty
Elvis’ Sun Sessions- shows that relationships were short and that there was a lot of sexism
Neil Young’s After the Gold Rush- shows that 1970 was a time of change
After this we looked at enlightenment paintings
-There was one of a man above the clouds on a mountain top, it suggests that humans have risen above nature
-We also looked at a painting of Socrates killing himself
